Some systems store epoch dates as a signed 32-bit integer, which might cause problems on January 19, 2038 (known as the Year 2038 problem or Y2038). Unix Epoch time is the number of seconds elapsed since 00:00:00 UTC, Thursday, 1 January 1970. It’s an interesting concept, because the point in time is specific time we can easily recognise and process – it’s a specific time on a certain day way back in 1970. Unix time is a count of total seconds since a fixed time and date. It’s a date/time (or timestamp) format that looks different from the human-readable dates and times we’re used to. This is purely for efficiency reasons.
